The name Panambur is derived from 'Panam' which means Money and 'Ur' which means place or village in Tulu language.

Due to the good maintenance of the Panambur Beach by Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project,the Panambur Beach has been awarded as one of the clean & best maintained Beaches in the country.
